Presentation Night Wrap-Up- 2007/2008 Season - Author: Kalgoorlie Speedway PR
With a relatively small, but highly successful 2007/2008 racing season concluded, Saturday night, May the 17th showcased the annual Presentation Night for Boulder Speedway Association at the local Italian Club hall.
MC for the night, Nathan Powell, welcomed and thanked all in attendance, as well as giving a rundown on the season that was in conjunction with Club President Greg Robbins. Two blockbuster meetings started the year in World Series Sprintcars and the Monster Truck Spectacular, to the WASCF Modified Sedan State Title, the 360 Sprintcar Gold Cup, the inaugural Goldrush Hammerdown for Super Sedans and the Open Club Championships were all held, whilst two meetings, the Late Model Fireball Derby in February and the AMCA National 1000 in April both suffered rain outs.
Club Members of four divisions who had raced regularly over the 6 meetings held this season were in line for Closed Club Championship trophies, those being Junior Sedans, Street Stocks, AMCA Nationals and Production Sedans.
A Slideshow had been put together by Sam Robbins featuring pictures (provided by Sheldon Nouchy) of all local cars which was shown at the time of each Division being presented with their hardware.
Junior Sedans saw former Esperance, now Kalgoorlie based female competitor Martika Hand take overall first place on 560 points, with Dylan Nollas claimed second on 487 points, with another female competitor in Brittany Penn rounding out the podium on 342 points.
Street Stocks had been a highly entertaining division all year, putting on some close and fast racing. Veteran competitor Bob Wakefield finished the season as the overall winner on 470 points, whilst Terry Marssen was second on 395 points and Ray Leonard finished third on 369 points.
AMCA Nationals endured the rain-out of their feature night in April 2008, however that didn’t dampen the spirits of Eddie Boeg who held a slender margin in the points to take the top step on the podium over the season. Boeg finished with 426 points, whilst Carl Melder’s season total of points saw him finish second with 396 points. Glen Fiorenza finished third on 260
points.
Production Sedan results were the closest of the four divisions, with Leonora resident Craig Agnew finishing first on 330 points, with Nigel Kleindeinst second with 313 points and Nathan Brennan on 274 points.
The Wilmot Engineering Fairest and Best award was presented to Street Stock driver Bob Wakefield for his consistent season, whilst also travelling within WA and to South Australia for the National Title and representing the club.
Gold Cups were then presented to sponsors Broadspectrum, Riklan Emergency Management Services, Penn’s Cartage and Crane Hire, Wilmot Engineering, Goldfields Crane Hire and Hydralink for their continued support this season.
The Penn’s Cartage and Crane Hire Dedication Award was presented to Julie Ottey for her tireless and often thankless task of being chief lap scorer and points keeper.
Club Person of the Year was awarded to Nathan Powell for the huge effort he put in all year. Nathan had put in place an extensive advertising campaign within the local area, whilst also liaising with the local Kalgoorlie Miner newspaper, to have preview and post meeting articles appear all season. Nathan also did a number of thankless tasks for the club prior to each race meeting that certainly kept the show rolling this season.
Volunteers in Terese Robbins (Bar), Samantha Robbins (Pit Gate), Gena Manuel (Bar), Julie Ottey (Timing Tower), Martine Green (Club Registrar) and Debbie Tinkler (Main Gate) were all thanked for volunteering during the season in their respective roles. Photo Collages were presented to the club by track photographer Sheldon Nouchy. The first highlighted the season that was at the track itself, whilst the final three individual pieces highlighted the three State Title winners in the club ranks this season, being Robbie Bawdon (Super Sedans), Kanne Manuel (360 Sprintcars) and Brendan Selleck (Modified Sedans).
Club President Greg Robbins finished the night off with a relatively simple speech thanking those on the committee for the efforts this season and reminding all that the AGM is to be held on Wednesday, 4th of June at the Clubrooms at 7.30pm sharp.
